Volunteer and make a difference
Our Volunteer Opportunities
Most people who think of volunteering with Habitat likely think of swinging a hammer. But due to the tremendous amount of planning and management required to build just one home, we have a constant need for committee members and volunteers to help with many other tasks within our organization. You do not need to be an expert in any of these fields of service to help! These tasks require only a willingness to work with others and learn about Habitat for Humanity. Some of our volunteer opportunities include:
ReSTORE: Volunteers are needed for one or more days per week, in two- or four-hour increments. ReStore duties include: Receiving and sorting donated items; Organizing donations; Setting up cozy room areas for display; Supporting departments (Housewares, Home Improvement, Lawn and Garden, etc.); Restocking shelves and areas of the store.; Helping customers; Running the cash register; Cleaning Store areas; Assisting with donation pickups [must be able to lift up to 75 pounds].
CONSTRUCTION: Volunteers are needed for all phases of construction, both on- and off-site. We prepare and plan ahead for all of our builds, and have everything ready ahead of time. There are many ways you can help us build more houses for deserving families and improve the quality of living within our community.
We need:
- Groups that can work perhaps one day per week on special projects
- Non-construction support for construction crews (e.g., meal preparation)
- People who can build shelves, display racks, etc. for the Home Store and front office
- Skilled and unskilled workers to work on our builds
FRONT OFFICE/CLERICAL: Volunteers are needed to work in two- or four-hour
increments in our front office and to assist our staff in the following ways:
- Answering the phone
- Taking messages
- Filing
- Entering data
- Greeting visitors
- Making calls to arrange for donated items and meals to be delivered to events and job sites
- Compiling scrapbooks
- Working on special projects
COMMITTEE SERVICE: We need volunteers to serve on our Board of Directors, as well as on the following committees: ReStore, Land Acquisition, Development, Construction, Family, and Church Relations, Publicity, Finance, Volunteer Recruitments, speakers Bureau, Office Administration and Special Events.
