PROJECTS AND BUILDS Donate Land
Land Acquisition is the HOT Topic, and is the “Happening Committee” for Habitat for Humanity of Greater Apopka. Without land we will not be able to build affordable houses. As we meet our goal of building 10 homes per year on a sustained basis. Obviously, without land, we can’t build homes! You can help HFH-Apopka to obtain land in many ways:
- Making a donation, or partial donation, of land you or a relative/friend owns in the northwest area of Orange County. Qualifying donors that pay Florida corporate income tax or Florida sales use tax can receive 50% of their donation back through a tax credit or refund by working directly with HFH-Apopka who is an approved sponsor of the Community Contribution Tax Credit Program (CCTCP) – a special program set up under the Governor’s office.
- Making a donation of funds designated for local land acquisition
- Buying land now for HFH donate it now, receiving a tax deduction, or possibly qualifying for a tax credit.
- Buying land and leasing it to Habitat-Apopka with the intent that we make improvements so that a future combination “donate/sell” pre-agreement leads you to a higher deduction as the value of land is higher!
- Asking your local unit of government to set aside land for WorkForce and Affordable Housing
- Asking your local unit of governments to increase densities for those developers/builders who agree to set aside a certain percentage of their land for affordable housing or who agree to donate it to an organization that builds homes for people that invest both cash and sweat equity in the purchase of their homes.
- Urge your local elected officials to establish more opportunities for affordable housing, including an “Affordable Housing Land Trust”.
